On March 22nd 2013, the annual SRL Earth Day was celebrated. In the morning, all teachers and students came to school at the usual time and the day began with an introduction about Earth Day given by the geography students.
After the introduction, the P1 to F1 students were divided into sections with one section going to the hall to watch the Earth Day performances and the other, called down to the playground to play games. The sections would then change destinations after an hour. The P1 to P4 students were the first to be called down to the hall to watch performances organized by the F4 to F6 Geography students. The performances consisted of a choral recitation by the Form 5 Elective Geography students, a drama by the F4 and F6 Geography students, and a djembe rap performance by the Form 5 Mainstream Geography students. Meanwhile, the P5 to F1 students were called down to the playground to enjoy educational, Earth-themed games prepared by the F2 and F3 students. The game booths showcased games that promoted environmental protection and resource conservation. The students were encouraged to use the knowledge they had already learned to play the games.
The last activity was held by the Ecology Club. It involved a T-shirt Tote bag design competition for F4 to F6 commercial students. The students were requested to use an old T-shirt, scraps of old clothes and other non-paper or non-plastic materials, to cut and design a creative, washable and reusable tote bag! Meanwhile, the F4 to F6 Science students spent the morning doing experiments in the labs. The day ended on a high note, with everyone having fun and enjoying it!
