Besides being academically nourished, our students are also exposed to a wide range of activities. They direct these activities and experience the rewards that come from self-motivation and creative discovery.

What happens when children direct their own learning?

They become creative, confident, capable people with a sense of sharing and develop a good working relationship with their peers and members of their community.

SRL's 72nd ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

by Cindy Chow (Form 5 Science)

The 72nd anniversary School Day celebration ended happily on the 4th Oct, 2004. As usual, the activities of the day were prepared by the Religious Affairs Committee and the theme for this year was ¡§ Live With A Purpose¡¨.

A Mass was held in the morning before the celebration to thank God for the love and blessings that He has bestowed on us all through these years. After the Mass, the celebration began at 9 o'clock with prayers followed by movies of St. Francis of Assisi and the ¡§Creative Movements ¡¨ game. Each level was given a different topic based on the creations of God, like cats and flowers, and the classes had to create human images of the patterns and show them to the judge after 15 minutes. After a few minutes of discussion, students hurried to start with their pattern creations. Some tried to make use of the colours of their clothes or their hands and legs. Some of the patterns even mimicked the movements and sounds of the animal being created!

After the little warm-up activity came the climax of the day. Winners of the ¡§Live With A Purpose¡¨ competition performed their dramas on stage. Each one of the plays expressed a message of life, and it seemed that William Hung, the famous American idol, was really very popular among our schoolmates as he apperared in two of the dramas shown. We are grateful to some students who had performed gracefully on the school day for sharing their feelings and impressions towards their efforts and the play.
